Nvidia’s Project Shield gaming device – now to be known simply as Shield – is available to pre-order, with shipping set to begin in June.
Pre-order is initially available for those who have signed up for the Shield newsletter, with general pre-order starting this Monday (May 20). Shield, which Nvidia describes as “an open platform gaming portable designed for gamers who yearn to play when, where and how they want” will sell for $349, with Newegg, Gamestop, Micro Center and Canada Computers also carrying the device.
As previously reported, Shield plays both Android and PC games, accessing games on Google Play or streaming games from PCs powered by Nvidia’s GeForce GTX GPUs. It is based on the Tegra 4 chip, which Nvidia called “the world’s fastest mobile processor”.
